Stuck Reflex-Loops

Scan-Drone / Sentinel

Ranged process that fills the field with aimed shots — the readable workhorse mob.

Overview

Scan-Drones (also called Sentinels depending on the biome tier) are standard ranged AI processes: autonomous scanning subroutines that fire aimed shots at detected intrusions. They are the bullet-density baseline of the Latent Space — the mob that teaches players to keep moving because the field is never empty of incoming fire.

The doc notes these re-theme the proto’s existing sniper/weaver archetypes (proto_enemy_aimed, proto_enemy_pulse and related variants from the realm pool).

Behavior

Scan-Drones hold a preferred engagement range and fire steady streams of aimed projectiles at the player. They do not rush or teleport. Their threat is cumulative: alone they are trivial; in mixed packs alongside Garbage Collectors or Rollback Phantoms they demand constant attention to bullet lanes while dodging other threats.

The Sentinel variant fires denser weaving patterns that create overlapping bullet corridors — harder to read than the Scan-Drone’s direct aimed shots.

Attack Pattern

  • Aimed shot (Scan-Drone) — direct projectile aimed at current player position.
  • Weave pattern (Sentinel) — a denser, crossing-lane projectile spread.
  • Scales with depth: faster projectile speed, higher rate of fire, tighter spread patterns.

How to Fight

Keep moving laterally — aimed shots are only dangerous to stationary targets. The Sentinel’s weave pattern has readable gaps; move into the widest gap rather than reversing direction. Prioritize them in mixed packs because sustained fire from multiple Scan-Drones is the primary ambient threat in most rooms.

Threat Notes

  • Tier: Trash / roaming mob
  • Corruption affix: under enraged, fire rate and projectile speed increase; under frozen, projectiles slow but gain homing.
  • Lore hook: automated scanning processes — the Wreck’s immune system checking for foreign data. No intent, just a running loop.
  • Names: Scan-Drone / Sentinel are working names. OPEN — final names are Jay’s call.
